Gothic Clothing Starts with Your Imagination
Gothic Clothing Includes a Black FoundationOver the years, I’ve learned that fashions may come and go, but personal style and gothic clothing, the “art of display” is everlasting, regardless of the changing fads that are sweeping through. It’s your creative adaptation of the underlying sea of current trends that shows that you are both confident and caring about your gothic self.
Gothic clothing starts with your imagination. The art of display is a creative expression that allows others to see the “real” you. And by expressing your uniqueness through your self-image, this enables you to attract like-minded people into your life. Individuality is the gothic subversion to the mainstream convention on how one must look. Therefore, I have found that most Goths are very accepting of the diversity of gothic clothing styles and body types. Black is the corner stone of all gothic clothing styles. The most important feature of any self respecting Goth is accessories and props - fishnet stockings are a must, any old lace, ribbon, dead roses, hats, lace gloves, nail polish, chokers, rosaries, crosses or other religious paraphernalia, clove cigarettes, whips, fetish gear, scarves and netting. One of your most important props for gothic cloting will be: a fan, a book of dark poetry, an antique lacy handkerchief, or anything else that you can use to create a mysterious air of gothyness. Strive for originality in your gothic clothing. Also remember that black is not the only color for gothic fashion. Deep blues, blood-reds, royal purples, and pure white can be equally striking. Your Gothic clothing look should be as opulent, striking and original as possible. Consider shopping at vintage or retro shops to create your unique and one of a kind classic gothic style.
