Goth Scene for Those Who Think Outside the Box

Regular nights at night clubs have been hosting the goth scene for two decades. These venues provide an opportunity for like-minded people in the subculture to meet and socialize. There is a diversity of music and styles, but on the whole, the goth scene exhibits unique and creative expression in gothic makeup, hairstyles and clothing. In more recent years, the goth and fetish scene are sometimes merged. There has been a cross-pollination of styles whereas goth has influenced fetish, while fetish elements such as leather, PVC and latex have been appropriated by the gothic subculture.

Goth can be either an artistic movement or an alternative lifestyle. Either way, the gothic look involves very black clothing and sometimes very white makeup within a diversity of style categories. Voltaire's What is Goth? provides a humouous description of the Gothic look and style, while sharing some interesting insights. He believes that Goths are spooky-looking on the outside, but are generally good people on the inside, whereas mundanes (mainstream people) are normal-looking on the outside, but many can be concealing their "creepiness" on the inside.

An analogy of that dichotomy is the popular movie, The Matrix where the main character, Neo is the hero dressed in gothic black with PVC pants and stompy boots, while the villain, Smith wears a business suit and tie. Although Neo looks spooky, he's good on the inside, while Smith is creepy and evil underneath the cloak of respectability.

Therefore, a Goth is someone who thinks outside of the mainstream and one who is willing or has taken the red pill.
